How Tesla cuts down forests and ignores environmental regulations. And how protest brings about change.

In February 2026, another 18 hectares of forest were cut down under police protection to make way for the expansion of the Tesla factory.

Once again, Tesla couldn’t care less about any regulations or obligations. Elon Musk couldn’t care less about environmental destruction—after all, he can always just head off to Mars.

In Grünheide, Tesla would have to comply with development plan No. 60. Tesla had to install reptile protection fences along the remaining roadside strips by March at the latest. Of course, this does not make up for the destruction of the forest, but it does give the smooth snake and the sand lizard a chance to survive.

The fences are intended to prevent the animals from entering the construction site and being killed there.

But by the end of March, these fences had not been installed. For this reason, the Grünheide Citizens’ Initiative sent a request to the Grünheide municipal government.

A copy of the letter was sent to Tesla and the nature conservation agency, among others. And look what happened: Just two days later, the protective fences were put up.

Since March was mostly cool, there is hope that the animals are still hibernating underground. Now they have a better chance of survival.

The destruction caused by Tesla continues. We will continue to take to the streets to protest against Tesla and to advocate for water justice, environmental protection, and a genuine shift toward sustainable mobility for everyone.

And we’re also committed to making even the smallest changes for small animals.
