We, the ‘Tesla den Hahn abdrehen’ alliance, are protesting against the expansion of the Tesla car factory because
- Electric cars are not a solution. They are neither ecological nor affordable for everyone. We need sustainable mobility for everyone instead of even more cars!
- The extraction of raw materials for electric cars is characterised by environmental destruction, child labour and human rights violations.
- People live without access to clean water because their drinking water is used to extract lithium.
- Tesla’s car factory jeopardises the drinking water of 170,000 people in Berlin and Brandenburg.
At the same time, we support the employees and their labour struggles with Tesla.
- Tesla refuses to pay fair wages in line with the industry average. At the same time, Elon Musk is one of the richest person in the world, thanks to the poor working conditions.
- The jobs are insecure. Most recently, 300 temporary workers were made redundant due to the weak economy and, according to internal sources, a total of 3,000 jobs are to be cut.
- Hire & fire is one of Tesla’s basic principles. Promotions and dismissals are not transparent. Individual employees who pointed out safety deficiencies or made suggestions for improvement were dismissed.
- The extreme pressure to perform in the factory continues to lead to health problems, accidents at work and a very high sickness rate.
- Working hours and holidays do not meet current labour standards.
- Democratic co-determination in the company and trade union organisation are being fought against.
That is why we demand above all
- Fair collectively agreed wages, secure jobs and profit shares for all workers, instead of huge profits for Elon Musk
- Better work safety and health protection, sustainable production speed
- Union organisation and a works council from below
Our goal is to fight together with Tesla workers for good jobs and environmentally friendly production. This requires fundamental change:
- Sustainable, cost-effective mobility for all
- Production of public transport vehicles in former car factories
- Reducing working hours with full wage equalisation
- Fight for self-managed factories – in which workers determine how production takes place
- Socialisation of services of general interest in the areas of mobility, housing, medical care and energy – human needs instead of profits!
